Princess Diana wanted William and Harry to know Charles loved her, Seward says

Hello!

Royal biographer Ingrid Seward says Diana told her she wanted Princes William and Harry to know their father, then-Prince Charles, had loved her. Diana said letters she and Charles exchanged were held in the Royal Archives and could not be viewed for 50 years.

Seward said she had seen Diana shortly before her death and recalled Diana calling Charles “the one she would always love” and “the one that got away.” Seward also said Charles wrote Diana affectionate letters and felt guilty that the marriage failed, while adding that the pair were not suited at the time.

The remarks come amid renewed attention to Charles Spencer's memoir, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister. Buckingham Palace pushed back against the book, saying fraternal grief can cloud judgment and memory; Spencer also apologized to Piers Morgan over a factual error in the book. William and Harry did not answer reporters' questions about the memoir, while Spencer told People that Harry was “completely fine” with it.
