Susan Sarandon, Hannah Einbinder, Darializa Avila Chevalier and Chi Osse were among about 100 protesters arrested by New York police outside UN headquarters as they rallied against Benjamin Netanyahu before his address to the General Assembly.
Organized by Jewish Voice for Peace, the protest drew about 200 people wearing matching white shirts with slogans including “Fund people not bombs,” “No war” and “Free Palestine.” Protesters blocked traffic; after police ordered them to leave over loudspeakers, officers surrounded those who remained seated on the pavement and escorted them to police buses.
At the General Assembly, Netanyahu defended Israel’s actions in the Middle East as dozens of delegates walked out. Separately, pro-Palestinian protesters gathered on the steps of the New York Public Library, waving Palestinian flags and carrying banners.
