Pittsburgh pediatrician Idris Evans was killed and his wife critically injured in a stabbing during a break-in at their Edgewood home early Thursday, authorities said. Their children, 8 and 12, fled to a neighbor; suspect Elijah Hemingway, 32, faces homicide and other charges.
Authorities believe Hemingway entered through a back window. In the criminal complaint, Evans’ wife told police the attacker repeatedly spoke about God and being God, and demanded her car keys. Police said he took the keys but found no evidence he tried to take the car. A canine team found him hiding in a nearby yard with cuts on his hands.
Hemingway faces charges including homicide, aggravated assault, burglary and criminal trespass. Authorities have not provided a motive; investigators are trying to determine whether he and Evans knew each other.
