A pit bull puppy was rescued from a sewer drain near 2400 W. Minnesota Street in Indianapolis after responders heard her cries. The Indianapolis Fire Department’s confined-space team freed her by 6:41 p.m., and Animal Care Services took her into its care.
Indianapolis Animal Care Services and the Wayne Township Fire Department responded first, then called in the Indianapolis Fire Department’s Confined Space Rescue Team. A mutual-aid agreement between Wayne Township and Indianapolis allows specialized resources to cross jurisdictional lines on Marion County’s west side. Sewer rescues can involve narrow access, limited visibility and poor air conditions.
