Phil and Penny Knight are committing $1.1 billion to Providence to build Oregon’s first hospital dedicated solely to women’s health. The gift will also expand cardiovascular care, medical research and clinical training statewide.
The planned hospital will bring multiple areas of women’s care under one roof, reducing the need for patients to navigate separate doctors, specialties and facilities. Providence also plans to strengthen its heart institute and better coordinate care across the medical center.
The $1.1 billion is a personal commitment from the Knights, not a Nike donation. They had already contributed $200 million to Providence’s heart program, and their philanthropic pledges and donations across causes exceed $9 billion over two decades.
