Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran is still negotiating with Washington through Qatar and Pakistan but has no trust in the U.S., citing repeated attacks during talks. He said the Strait of Hormuz must be secured through cooperation, not force.
Iran proposed restarting nuclear talks in seven days if the U.S. ends its naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, agrees to a ceasefire and ends sanctions. The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump had apparently rejected the proposal and expected to resume bombing after the midterm elections.
Pezeshkian made the remarks in an Al Jazeera interview Saturday. Iran presented its proposal at the UN General Assembly after Trump said in his address that he was considering whether to “annihilate” the Islamic Republic. The U.S. and Israel launched joint airstrikes on Iran on Feb. 28.
