A Westinghouse WGen11500Tfc shut down as an AC compressor started during an outage, its owner wrote on Reddit. It was the generator’s second use; the owner felt Westinghouse service exchanges were shifting blame, while commenters disagreed over the cause.
The owner reported finding fuel in the bowl, a good spark and 30 psi of compression, which raised concern about possible internal engine damage. Commenters questioned whether that compression reading was abnormal and suggested possible carburetor or fuel-delivery problems, a burned valve or cylinder damage, and high air-conditioner startup demand. No cause was established.
Some commenters suggested a soft-start device for the two-ton air conditioner to reduce its startup demand. The owner said the post aimed to learn whether others had similar Westinghouse problems and that they planned to report the company’s actions once the case was resolved.
