Southern Water said a burst pipe was repaired overnight and water restored to all affected customers by Monday morning, after up to 9,000 customers in West Sussex lost supply. Roads near Crawley's Southgate Roundabout were also closed.
Supplies were first affected on Sunday morning, and a bottled-water station opened at The Hawth Theatre in Crawley. County Mall temporarily closed because of the water problems and said it would reopen today.
Southern Water said cloudy white water may be trapped air and advises leaving it in a glass for a few minutes. For brown or black water, it recommends running the tap for a few minutes and trying again after 20 minutes if needed. The company says supplies are fine to use once clear, a chlorine smell or taste is normal, and briefly running taps may help clear airlocks.
