Nearly $40 million investor fraud results in 15-plus-year prison term for Charles Carrier

Chron

Charles Carrier, a Dallas real estate executive, was sentenced to more than 15 years in prison over a nearly $40 million investor fraud. He pleaded guilty to wire fraud and was ordered to pay more than $24 million in restitution.

Court documents say Carrier solicited millions from investors from 2018 through 2024, promising to use their money to buy, renovate and resell homes. Many investors were elderly. His Dallas firm, C&C Residential Properties, partnered with HomeVestors, the parent company of “We Buy Ugly Houses.”

Prosecutors said Carrier often failed to record deeds for properties and diverted investors’ money to personal expenses, unrelated business costs and payments to earlier investors. An accompanying post said more than 80 victims were affected.
