Washington designated right-hander Chase Hampton for assignment after claiming him off waivers from the Yankees earlier this month. He has not appeared for the Nationals; the club can retain his rights if he clears waivers.
Hampton was selected by the Yankees in the sixth round of the 2022 draft out of Texas Tech and was once a top-100 prospect. Across 55 innings at three levels in New York’s system, he posted an 8.18 ERA and allowed 13 home runs in 17 appearances.
If Washington does not have Hampton in its plans, he could become a free agent.
