The Washington Nationals designated right-hander Chase Hampton for assignment Saturday, weeks after claiming him off waivers from the New York Yankees, who had designated him for assignment on Sept. 7. Hampton has yet to pitch in the majors.
The Yankees made their move to clear a 40-man roster spot for Aaron Judge, who returned from an 84-game injured-list stint. Hampton posted an 8.18 ERA over 55 innings in the Yankees’ organization this year.
Hampton underwent Tommy John surgery last year. The Yankees drafted him in the sixth round in 2022 out of Texas Tech; across 180 1/3 minor-league innings, he has a 4.89 ERA and 217 strikeouts.
