Musk says xAI’s Colossus 2 could double its Nvidia GPU count by year-end

Elon Musk said xAI’s Colossus 2 could double its Nvidia GPU count by year-end, from 550,000 now. He cited 220,000 GB300s due next week, another 220,000 in November and a possible 220,000 in late December; if all arrive, the cluster would exceed SpaceX’s 1 million-GPU goal.

Musk said the current 550,000 GPUs comprise 110,000 GB200s and 440,000 GB300s. Reports cited in the article put xAI’s spending on the initial 550,000 GPUs at about $18 billion; the article says the planned additions could be worth more because they include newer GB300s.

Earlier in September, Musk said SpaceX would use Nvidia chips exclusively going forward. He also said Nvidia and SpaceX had designed a Vera Rubin NVL72 system for planned orbital data centers; launch is targeted for late 2027, with scaling in 2028. The Motley Fool article calls Nvidia a buy, citing its AI-infrastructure position and a forward P/E ratio of 14 times fiscal 2028 earnings.
