Munetaka Murakami hit two home runs and drove in three runs, while Sean Burke allowed one run over 5⅓ innings as the Chicago White Sox beat the Colorado Rockies 6-1 in Friday’s series opener. Chicago improved to 83-77; Colorado fell to 57-103.
Colorado’s best chance came in the sixth: Hunter Goodman’s double hit the wall just short of a possible 40th home run. He reached third on a passed ball, but pinch hitter Cole Carrigg struck out to end the threat. Chicago added two runs in the eighth on RBI singles by Kyle Teel and Murakami.
Tomoyuki Sugano took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits over 6⅔ innings, with five strikeouts and no walks. Colson Montgomery struck out for the 224th time this season, breaking the single-season mark he had shared with former Rockie Mark Reynolds.
