The Supreme Court rejected Missouri Republicans’ bid for a new congressional map for November’s election for a third time, leaving the 2022 map in place. The plan would have made a Kansas City district more favorable to Republicans, offering a chance at an extra House seat.
The unsigned decision followed a Monday ruling by the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals in favor of the new map. The Supreme Court cited the fact that ballots using the 2022 map had been printed and mailed and absentee, military and overseas voting had begun. It warned that changing maps at that stage would bring “electoral chaos.” The opinion included no written dissents.
Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe said his administration would follow the ruling. He criticized the outcome, saying the November general election would use a different congressional map from the primary and that voters deserved consistency and certainty.
