MLB.com kept Jacob Misiorowski atop its starting-pitcher rankings for a seventh straight edition, ahead of Cam Schlittler, Chris Sale and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. He is 15-5 with a 1.86 ERA and 247 strikeouts in 169.1 innings, with one regular-season start left.
Misiorowski needs three more strikeouts to reach 250. If he gets there in his final start, he would be the fourth pitcher in the past six years to reach that total, joining Spencer Strider, Gerrit Cole and Garrett Crochet. He also leads qualified starters with a .180 opponent batting average.
Schlittler ranked second, Sale third and Yamamoto fourth. Schlittler’s 1.94 ERA is second among qualified starters. Sale reached 200 strikeouts Wednesday for the ninth time, passing Steve Carlton for the second-most such seasons by a left-hander; only Randy Johnson has more. Yamamoto rose from No. 8, with a 1.98 ERA over 10 starts since the All-Star break and a 0.87 WHIP for the season.
