A New York Times/Siena poll found 46% of Michigan voters trust Abdul El-Sayed more than Mike Rogers to handle AI and data centers. El-Sayed leads Rogers 49%-44% in the Senate race among likely voters; 66% oppose building AI data centers and 29% support it.
The survey of 605 likely voters was conducted Sept. 15–22 and has a margin of error of ±4.9 percentage points.
El-Sayed has called for state and local moratoriums on new data centers until federal rules require union jobs, prevent utility-bill increases, protect water resources and fund power-grid investment. Rogers said Michigan should compete for AI-related jobs and investment and that data centers should pay for their own electricity; in August, he called for a one-year moratorium. El-Sayed has accused Rogers of investing up to $2.6 million in the data-center boom.
