Donald Trump took Chinese President Xi Jinping and other state dinner guests to see the construction site of a $400 million ballroom, the White House confirmed Friday. At Thursday's banquet, Trump said the project was about a year from completion.
According to The New York Post, guests left through the East Room doors and followed a red carpet to a stand where they could inspect the site. Journalists were led out of the dinner.
Trump has called it the “greatest military-complex-slash-ballroom anywhere in the world,” saying it will have six floors of sensitive underground sites and a drone port on the roof. He has invoked national security to bat away questions about planning permission and the cost of the ballroom and other sites.
