Tyler Antonelle of New York Mets on SI listed Brewers first baseman Jake Bauers as a possible Mets free-agent option. In 2026, Bauers has 26 homers, 83 RBIs and an on-base percentage near .400, the NL’s best, but his eight first-base errors lead the league, Antonelle says.
Antonelle said Bauers, who made $2.7 million this year and will soon be 31, could receive a major raise, but his age and sudden breakout leave questions about whether he can sustain his production. He also cited Bauers’ high strikeout rate, walks and hard-hit balls, and said his corner-outfield versatility could help the Mets give Juan Soto more rest.
In a separate article, New York Mets on SI writer Mike Phillips suggested Phillies infielder Alec Bohm as another possible free-agent option. Phillips cited Bohm’s .251 average, 15 home runs, 84 RBIs and .707 OPS in 534 at-bats, and said first base is a major question for New York.
