The Mets are moving toward adding Derek Falvey, The Athletic reports; the former Twins president of baseball operations is expected to have a significant role in team decisions, but has not been officially hired and his title is unknown.
Falvey and the Twins mutually parted ways at the beginning of 2026. He and Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns worked together in Cleveland’s front office in 2011 and 2012.
The Mets entered 2026 with a payroll well over $300 million and, with five games remaining, can finish with at most 77 wins even if they win all five. They also missed the playoffs in 2025 after a strong start and late-season struggles.
