Lions starting linemen Christian Mahogany and Blake Miller returned on a limited basis Wednesday and could play Sunday against the Jets. Safety Thomas Harper did not practice with an ankle injury; he said it should not be long-term, but his status for Sunday is unclear.
Avonte Maddox will miss the season after foot surgery. Brian Branch (Achilles) and Kerby Joseph (knee), both on the physically unable to perform list, are not healthy enough to start their return-to-practice windows this week. Coach Dan Campbell said Branch could return before Joseph, but not this week; Joseph has no clear recovery timetable. The Lions added Jalen Mills to their practice squad and Bishop Fitzgerald to the 53-man roster at safety.
Right guard Tate Ratledge (elbow) was limited, while guard Ben Bartch (foot) did not practice. Running back Isiah Pacheco is on injured reserve with MCL and back injuries and is expected to be out until December.
