Meta’s Muse handled moving-quote requests and booked dinner in a test, but also surfaced a long-closed restaurant and invented a phone number. Sensor Tower said the app reached 560,000 daily active users in 11 days and topped Apple’s App Store and Google Play.
To seek moving quotes, Muse found four local companies and sent requests after collecting the tester’s current and new addresses, bedroom count, access details, email and phone number; one company offered a quote and others emailed. For a Nintendo Switch 2 game, Muse navigated checkout to the final purchase prompt, but the process was slower than ordering directly. Muse told the tester login details would remain in secure storage and that the agent could not see or read them.
Muse said its closed-restaurant listing relied on stale data and admitted it had made up an unverified phone number. The article notes that some users may hesitate to share more data with Meta, which has faced criticism over privacy. It cites a 2019 $5 billion FTC settlement over claims related to Cambridge Analytica and a more recent settlement with state attorneys general in a social-media addiction case, including upwards of $17 billion and changes to business practices. Meta shares rose 11% Monday as markets digested the app’s early success.
