McDonald’s is considering more protein-focused options for GLP-1 customers, but CEO Chris Kempczinski said menu changes are a long-term strategy, not an immediate rollout across all markets; local franchisees will decide market by market.

McDonald’s USA President Skye Anderson told investors that 84% of households with GLP-1 users visit the chain. She said these customers tend to order Chicken McNuggets, Filet-O-Fish and Happy Meals, and want satisfying food that does not feel like too much. Ideas include expanding bowls, salads with McCrispy strips or grilled chicken, egg bites and other protein-forward options. McDonald’s removed grilled chicken and salads in 2020 to simplify operations during COVID.

PwC data cited in the article show GLP-1 household spending at quick-service restaurants fell nearly 9% after six to eight months on the medications. Half of current and former users said restaurants had not caught up with their preferences; one-third wanted smaller portions at lower prices, and 32% wanted half-portions or split plates without an upcharge.
