Rep. Thomas Massie predicted a GOP “shellacking” in November’s election, saying Republican candidates are distancing themselves from President Trump because they do not want him in their districts. He said Trump’s “comeuppance” would come on Election Day.
Massie made the remarks Thursday on CNN’s The Source. He called Trump “unrepentant” and “in denial,” and predicted a “reckoning” the day after the election. He wondered whether Trump might signal he had gotten the message with a move like President George W. Bush’s firing of his defense secretary after the 2006 midterms, adding that it remained to be seen.
Massie lost his primary this cycle to Trump-backed Ed Gallrein.
