Reporter Taylor Lyons says Maryland PR apparently has a new policy barring follow-up questions at Mike Locksley’s press conferences. He made the claim after Tuesday’s news conference, following Maryland’s 35-26 loss to Virginia Tech.
Lyons, a Baltimore Sun reporter, said staffers had taken microphones from reporters multiple times in recent weeks. At the news conference, he challenged Locksley on repeated post-loss promises to learn from defeats and asked whether he deserved more chances. Locksley acknowledged fans’ frustration and said improvement would come through the team’s work; when Lyons tried to continue, Locksley took another reporter’s question.
The loss ended Maryland’s 2-0 start and left Locksley with a 39-50 record at the school. It came in his eighth season; Maryland had finished 4-8 in each of the previous two seasons.
