Maggie Thurman reunited with lifeguards and paramedics after a cardiac arrest at Hathersage Swimming Pool on 26 January. A fellow swimmer held her above water; CPR and defibrillator shocks stabilised her, and she returned to swimming four months later.
The arrest happened on 26 January 2026. Thurman was taken to Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital. East Midlands Ambulance Service said investigations, including an angiogram, found no blocked arteries, significant heart scarring or signs of heart failure. She had an implantable cardioverter defibrillator fitted nine days after admission and went home the next day.
