Lorenzo Clairborne, 19, was arrested late Sept. 24 after authorities accused him of abducting his 17-year-old former girlfriend and fleeing police across three states. Police said he dropped her off during the flight; WTVR reported she was safely returned to her family.
According to WTVR News, Clairborne is accused of taking the 17-year-old from the parking lot of Richard Bland College on Sept. 23; she is from Prince George County, Virginia. Myrtle Beach officers spotted him at 1:34 a.m. Sept. 24 driving north in the southbound lanes of U.S. 17 Bypass and pursued him to North Myrtle Beach, where he fled on foot. Police said he later stole another car and drove into North Carolina; authorities tracked it to Pender County. WTVR reported that after being handcuffed, he jumped into the Intracoastal Waterway and was pulled out by boat.
Myrtle Beach police say Clairborne faces multiple charges but have not released their specifics. The department said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may follow.
