No. 4 Indiana beat Northwestern 29-23 Friday, extending its FBS-best streak to 19 games and staying unbeaten at 4-0. Lee Beebe Jr. topped 100 rushing yards and scored in the fourth quarter as Northwestern’s rally came within a two-point conversion of tying the score.
Chiles’ dropped opening snap gave Indiana a safety, but the Northwestern quarterback later led the comeback, including a 4-yard touchdown pass to Griffin Wilde on fourth down. Indiana had held the Wildcats to 51 total yards at halftime before Chiles’ third-quarter scramble on third-and-13 helped spark the rally.
Beebe set career highs in carries and rushing yards, with a 38-yard run, a 4-yard touchdown and a 70-yard gain after Northwestern scored. He took on much of the workload after starting running back Turbo Richard left with an injury.
