The Cleveland Guardians beat the Kansas City Royals 12-9 Friday, Sept. 25, cutting their AL Central magic number to two after drawing 13 walks. Cleveland leads the Chicago White Sox by one game with two games left.
Kansas City’s bullpen walked nine Guardians hitters in the final two innings, including a string of bases-loaded walks during Cleveland’s five-run ninth. Angel Martinez capped the rally with a two-run double; Austin Hedges and David Fry homered early.
The Guardians and White Sox had both clinched AL playoff spots the previous night. The AL Central winner will receive a first-round bye.
