LeBron James paid tribute to Lakers announcer Lawrence Tanter after Tanter died Wednesday at 76. On X, James recalled seeing him at nearly every home game over the past eight years and offered condolences to Tanter’s family and loved ones.
Tanter began announcing Lakers games in 1982 and spent 43 seasons behind the microphone. He was there when James passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the NBA career scoring record in 2023 and when James became the first player to surpass 50,000 combined regular-season and playoff points in 2025.
Tanter suffered a stroke in March, missed the Lakers’ final six home games and postseason, and retired from public-address duties in June. He planned to remain with the organization as a special adviser for game presentation.
