Kinnock accuses Plaid Cymru of stalling Welsh investment deals

BBC

Welsh Secretary Stephen Kinnock accused Plaid Cymru’s government of stalling investment deals at Labour’s conference, saying jobs and security were delayed. Plaid’s Westminster leader Liz Saville Roberts said Labour should reflect on voters’ choice for change.

Kinnock urged Plaid to get energy infrastructure through planning, allow broadband upgrades for thousands of homes and honor its commitments on a £50m defence growth deal. He also said the UK Labour government had given Wales funding for additional-needs provision in schools, and called on Plaid to get the money to children who need it.

Saville Roberts said many voters chose change after 27 years of Welsh Labour rule and that Plaid was focused on delivering it. Kinnock called for more local and regional devolution in Wales, warning that powers being devolved to mayors and councils in England risked leaving Wales the UK’s most centralised nation. He said UK ministers would carefully consider Welsh proposals for more powers, but cautioned that transferring policing could jeopardize cross-border police cooperation, including work on county lines.
