Missouri’s 2026 vote stays under current map as Trump criticizes Supreme Court

On Sunday, Trump said the Supreme Court denied Missouri an “Election Victory” after it rejected a third bid this month to revive the state GOP’s 2025 map. The justices left current lines in place for 2026, citing mailed ballots and voting already underway.

A statewide referendum on the 2025 map is scheduled for November. If voters approve it, the map takes effect after the election; if they reject it, current districts remain. Republicans hoped the revised boundaries would help them gain a seventh U.S. House seat; Missouri currently sends six Republicans and two Democrats to Congress.

Earlier this month, the Missouri Supreme Court ruled the referendum petition legal, sufficient and timely. The 2025 map would have moved parts of Kansas City out of the 5th District, represented by Democrat Emanuel Cleaver, and extended it into more rural areas. Richard von Glahn, executive director of People Not Politicians Missouri, welcomed Friday’s ruling and said, “We are moving forward to vote NO on Proposition A.”
