Kentucky rallied past South Alabama, 45-21, on Sept. 26 after trailing early and led 24-21 at halftime. Jason Patterson rushed for 189 yards and three touchdowns; CJ Baxter had 149 yards and a score, and Jovantae Barnes ran for 100 yards and a touchdown.
Kentucky was down 21-14 late in the first half before Patterson broke a 75-yard touchdown run to tie the game. Grant Godfrey then intercepted South Alabama quarterback Jared Hollins, and Adam Zouagui’s field goal put the Wildcats ahead at halftime.
Kentucky’s five running backs combined for 399 rushing yards and five touchdowns. Patterson, Baxter and Barnes each reached 100 rushing yards, a three-player milestone the Wildcats had not recorded since Oct. 3, 2020, against Ole Miss.
