Kamilia Chadli, 36, is charged with second-degree assault after police said she made racist and homophobic remarks before biting Diana Gonzalez's forehead in Seattle on Sept. 18. Police say Gonzalez has permanent injuries and needs surgery; Chadli is held on $150,000 bail.
Police said Gonzalez was walking to a convenience store near her downtown job when the woman threw a food wrapper at her. Police allege the woman spat on Gonzalez, pulled her to the ground and bit a piece of flesh about one inch in diameter from her forehead. A witness tried to separate them, then followed the suspect after she fled and alerted a courthouse marshal.
Seattle police arrested Chadli on suspicion of a hate-crime assault, but prosecutors have not said whether they will pursue the case as a hate crime. It is unclear whether she has entered a plea or retained an attorney who can speak on her behalf.
