Jonathan Alcide, 36, was unanimously convicted of murdering his cellmate Neil Ashby, 49, at HMP Stoke Heath in July last year. A Stafford Crown Court jury rejected his defence; he is due to be sentenced on November 17.
Alcide denied murder, arguing he was not guilty by reason of insanity and should instead be convicted of manslaughter by diminished responsibility.
Alcide strangled Ashby before telling prison officers, “I've killed my padmate.”
