The Mets fell 3-1 to Texas in the series finale after winning the first two games. Carson Benge’s RBI single put New York ahead in the first, but Josh Jung hit a two-run homer and Corey Seager added a solo shot. New York had only two hits and two walks after the first inning.
Rangers starter Kumar Rocker, a former Mets first-round pick, allowed the first-inning run over five innings, with two walks and four strikeouts. Texas’s relievers shut out New York over the final four innings, allowing one baserunner. Mets starter Zach Thornton allowed two runs in five innings, with four strikeouts and one walk, in his final start of the year.
