Jon Stewart joked Trump might treat the country better if allowed to put his name on it. Stewart was responding to Trump’s threat to close and demolish the Kennedy Center unless it bore his name; Trump later confirmed its immediate closure for “safety reasons.”
A federal judge blocked efforts to add Trump’s name to the Kennedy Center before he confirmed its closure. The judge later ordered the administration to give the court 30 days’ notice if demolition is proposed. In court, the administration argued the center “cannot survive” without Trump’s help and that he deserved “prominent recognition” on the building for that help.
Stewart suggested Trump’s name could be removed from a hypothetical “Trump United States of America” after he leaves office. He also proposed letting Trump issue coins and flags bearing his name. Stewart criticized Trump’s constant presence on television, contrasting it with earlier presidents who did not dominate the airwaves.
