The trailer for “Madden,” with Nicolas Cage as late football coach John Madden, debuted Sept. 24. The biopic traces his Raiders partnership with Al Davis and the creation of the Madden NFL game; it opens in select theaters Nov. 11 and streams globally on Prime Video Nov. 18.
Directed by David O. Russell, the film also stars Christian Bale as Raiders owner Al Davis, John Mulaney as Electronic Arts founder Trip Hawkins, Kathryn Hahn as Madden’s wife, Virginia, and Sienna Miller as Davis’ wife, Carol.
Madden became Oakland Raiders head coach in 1969 and led the team to its first Super Bowl victory in 1976. He retired from coaching in 1979 and worked as a commentator until 2009. The first Madden video game was released in 1988; Madden died in 2021 at age 85.
