Joey Porter Jr. has yet to play this season because of a back injury and is uncertain for the Steelers-Bengals game this weekend. Thursday, he said he did everything and it went smoothly; he expects to play eventually but made no commitment to this game.
Porter has not completed a full practice this season and missed all of training camp and preseason because of the injury. He said his back flares up “here and there” and denied a report that he was seeking an opinion on it.
Porter is seeking a long-term extension. He reportedly turned down a deal worth upwards of $27 million per season because the sides could not agree on guaranteed money; he called the matter old news and said he was focused on getting healthy. He also said he has not requested a trade. The Steelers have a longstanding rule against negotiating extensions during the season.
