Joey Fatone and manager Joe Mulvihill opened Fat One’s Hot Dogs & Italian Ice at Universal CityWalk in Orlando on Sept. 19. Its Brooklyn-inspired menu includes El Fonsi, a hot dog named for Fatone’s high-school friend, singer Luis Fonsi.
Fatone said Fonsi, his former high-school a cappella groupmate, approved the hot dog. El Fonsi comes on a brioche bun with ham, turkey, Swiss, sofrito, onion jam, mayo-ketchup and potato sticks; the shop also offers six Italian ice flavors in old-school white paper cups.
Fatone said he first considered franchising a hot dog truck he saw at Lollapalooza, but Mulvihill persuaded him to create the Fat One’s brand. Fatone described the Universal location as only the beginning, while Mulvihill said they want to be patient and work with the right people.
