Children across Jersey are set to receive age-appropriate picture books about dementia through a partnership between Every Child Our Future and Dementia Jersey; the books will be shared with schools and community groups to help explain memory loss and its effects.
The collection explores memory loss, family relationships and dementia’s effects on people. It includes Why Does Grandad Forget? by Rebecca Oxtoby and Elmer and the Gift by David McKee; a donation from the Lions Club of Jersey Swimarathon made production possible.
Dementia Jersey chief executive Claudine Snape said dementia often affects families, including children. Samares Primary School headteacher Jenny Posner said the books would help teachers support children's understanding and encourage sympathy.
