Former Phillies pitcher Jean Cabrera signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates one week after Philadelphia released him on Aug. 28, according to the official transaction log. In 2026, he posted a 9.32 ERA in seven Triple-A starts and a 6.86 ERA in 14 Double-A outings.
Cabrera joined Philadelphia as an international free agent in 2019 and made his professional debut in 2021. He received the Phillies’ Paul Owens Award alongside Bryson Stott that year; it recognizes the top position player and pitcher in the organization.
Before his 2026 struggles, Cabrera had a strong 2025 season at Double-A Reading, setting career highs with 26 starts, 137 innings and 127 strikeouts. Philadelphia added him to its 40-man roster in November 2024.
