The Senate rejected, 49-50, a resolution urging President Donald Trump to end the war with Iran or seek congressional authorization. Four Republicans joined nearly all Democrats in supporting it; John Fetterman was the only Democrat to vote against it.
The four Republicans were Thom Tills of North Carolina, Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Rand Paul of Kentucky. The Senate had considered a resolution to stop the war 14 times, and the House passed this measure 214-208 in July.
