India Investigates Apple’s iOS 18 Warranty Terms After Repair Complaints

Insider Monkey

India’s consumer regulator is investigating allegations that Apple’s iOS 18 update caused screen and microphone faults and that its software-warranty terms left users paying for repairs. Apple says it found no systemic issues; no violation has been found.

Apple says the case is based on 75 complaints, that iOS 18 underwent stringent testing and that about 11% of iPhones were still running it by June 2026. It says its no-warranty provision for software is consistent with global industry standards and similar to terms used by other major electronics companies.

The regulator says complaints also involved green, pink or white lines on screens and repair bills it called “exorbitant.” Reuters reported an estimated 27,900-rupee (about $291) service cost for an iPhone 15 screen, more than a third of its retail price. No proposed fine, refund amount or liability estimate is reported. Reuters said that if Apple is found to have violated consumer rules, it could potentially be required to issue refunds or change its business practices.
