An online Harris Poll found that 33% of U.S. adults ages 18 to 29 identified as religious, above Millennials (19%), Gen X (22%) and Baby Boomers (18%). It also found 88% of Gen Z respondents regularly practiced at least one religious or spiritual activity.
The survey included 2,136 U.S. adults from Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X and Baby Boomers. Gen Z respondents were also the likeliest to attend religious services or read scripture. Their spiritual interests included meditation, astrology and energy practices such as reiki and tai chi.
The broader U.S. trend has been away from organized religion: the share of Americans identifying as Christian fell from 90% in the early 1990s to below two-thirds, according to Pew Research Center. Meanwhile, the share identifying as agnostic, atheist or “nothing in particular” has risen to nearly three in 10.
