Iowa beat Michigan 20-19 on the final play Saturday, as quarterback Hank Brown completed a 16-yard touchdown pass to Reese Vander Zee. The Hawkeyes’ 91-yard winning drive was kept alive by a Michigan penalty and a late injury stoppage.
With 26 seconds left, Iowa appeared to face fourth-and-12 at its 30 after Brown’s deep pass to Tony Diaz fell incomplete. Zeke Berry’s unnecessary-roughness penalty gave the Hawkeyes 15 yards and a first down. At 11 seconds, Brown’s deflected pass was caught by Addison Ostrenga, leaving two seconds; an injury to Michigan’s John Henry Daley stopped the clock and gave Iowa time to regroup for the winning play.
