Godzilla Minus Zero earns 93% on Rotten Tomatoes after NYFF premiere

Forbes

As of Saturday night, Godzilla Minus Zero had a 93% Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score from 14 reviews following its world premiere Saturday at the New York Film Festival. The sequel to Godzilla Minus One is scheduled to open in North American theaters Nov. 6.

Godzilla Minus One, its 2023 predecessor, has a 99% critics’ score based on 213 reviews. Rotten Tomatoes’ Critics Consensus for the sequel was still pending; its Audience Summary and Popcornmeter score, based on verified user ratings, were not expected until the film opened in November.

Among the 14 early reviews, The Daily Beast’s Nick Schager was the sole critic to give the film a “rotten” score; The Wrap’s William Bibbiani called it a great sequel but said it was not one of the great Godzilla movies. Written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki, Toho’s 39th Godzilla film begins in 1949, two years after Godzilla Minus One, and follows the Shikishima family as they face what Toho calls an “all-new calamity.”
