The Giants brought right-hander Camilo Doval back to their active roster after the Pirates designated him for assignment, moving Blake Tidwell to the 60-day injured list to open a spot. Doval had a 3.79 ERA in 20 Pittsburgh appearances but walked nearly 16% of batters faced.
Doval spent parts of his first five seasons with San Francisco before a midseason trade to the Yankees last year. New York removed him from a high-leverage role earlier this year and later traded him to Pittsburgh at the deadline. In 2023, he led the NL with 39 saves, a 2.93 ERA and 87 strikeouts in 67.2 innings.
The Giants are bringing Doval back for the final few days of the regular season. If the front office likes what it sees, it could tender him a contract for 2027.
