Blue Apron and Marley Spoon customers report missing ingredients, incomplete boxes and missed deliveries during the supplier transition. Misfits Market says inventory counts reported in FreshRealm’s bankruptcy were wrong, leaving it scrambling for ingredients.
FreshRealm had been the main assembly-and-shipping supplier for both brands before filing for bankruptcy earlier this year. Misfits Market acquired parts of their contracts in the proceedings and has begun canceling orders it cannot fulfill; CEO Abhi Ramesh said it hopes to restore normal shipping within two weeks. FreshRealm’s financial collapse followed listeria outbreaks at its facilities last year; Walmart, which accounted for more than 20% of its revenue, ended its relationship in January.
A Wonder spokesman said Blue Apron is temporarily narrowing its menu to meals it is confident it can deliver and adding quality checks before boxes ship. Customer Kim Condas skipped four deliveries after a damaged box arrived missing key ingredients; Steven McGinty canceled future shipments after one box lacked two chicken portions and the next arrived with harissa sauce spilled over its contents.
