France let Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's plane cross its airspace en route to the U.N. on Thursday, saying the ICC warrant against him over alleged war crimes did not require action against a state plane carrying him.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pascal Confavreux called the clearance “in full conformity with international law.” France is a signatory to the Rome Statute and bound to cooperate with the ICC, including arresting suspects who enter its territory; Confavreux said the treaty sets no overflight obligation for state aircraft carrying a warrant target.
Flightradar24 showed Netanyahu's aircraft crossing Greece, Italy and France. Israel rejects the ICC's jurisdiction, denies war crimes in Gaza and contests the warrants against Netanyahu and former defence chief Yoav Gallant.
