Russian drone and missile strikes killed at least eight people in Ukraine on Thursday: six agricultural workers in the east and two in Kyiv. Kyiv residents are weighing winter contingency plans in case further Russian attacks knock out the energy system again.
Authorities said Kyiv was hit by powerful ballistic missiles. In Kharkiv region, the prosecutor's office said a storage facility in Chuhuiv district was struck while employees sorted vegetables; preliminary data indicated a small cruise missile known as Banderol was used. Officials in Odesa reported a fire at a shopping mall and damage to homes and businesses.
Nova Post said one of its branches was destroyed and its sorting depot damaged. AFP's analysis of ACLED data found more Russian strikes on the Kyiv region in the first 18 days of September than in any full month since the war began, except March 2022. The previous day, Russian strikes killed at least seven people in Ukraine.
